Timber Products' Medford particleboard mill earns FSC
The company's Medford, Ore., facility, where GreenT particleboard is manufactured, earned FSC Mixed Sources Chain of Custody authorization in June

Timber Products Company's GreenT™ particleboard and door core products just became a lot greener with a new Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification that was granted by Scientific Certification Systems, Inc.

The company's Medford, Ore., facility, where GreenT particleboard is manufactured, earned FSC Mixed Sources Chain of Custody authorization in June, which brings Timber Products' total number of FSC-certified locations to seven. Timber Products has nine U.S. manufacturing facilities.

“FSC-certified particleboard expands the menu of choices for our customers to order products that best fit their needs," said Timber Products vice president Roger Rutan. "Particleboard is a component of many other products, such as hardwood plywood and interior doors, so it must be flexible in its offerings. GreenT particleboard and door cores can meet any sustainable certification or building requirement, such as FSC, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Phase 2 formaldehyde standards."

Rutan expects the company's West coast door customers to realize the biggest benefit from the FSC certification, as the demand for door cores with the combination of FSC material and no-added urea formaldehyde technology is trending higher.

"We are one of the few companies that produce door cores to this specification," said Rutan. "Lead times in the past for this product have been up to six weeks. We will cut that time by roughly half, which will help customers control inventory and freight costs."
